wheel.me and Virtual Manufacturing UK announce collaboration and first wheel.me installation in Scotland

2026-02-09

wheel.me is proud to announce its collaboration with Virtual Manufacturing UK (VMUK), marking a significant milestone with the deployment of the first wheel.me wheel set in Scotland at the Digital Process Manufacturing Centre (DPMC) in Irvine.

The collaboration brings wheel.me’s autonomous mobility technology to the Scottish manufacturing sector, offering a practical and scalable approach to internal logistics automation. Together, wheel.me and VMUK aim to support manufacturers in improving material flow while avoiding complex infrastructure changes or long implementation projects.

Virtual Manufacturing UK is a well-established partner within industrial automation and digital manufacturing, with a strong presence in the UK manufacturing ecosystem.

Through this collaboration, VMUK will introduce and support the integration and deployment of wheel.me’s solutions within manufacturing operations across Scotland, working with companies to help identify where the technology can add the most value, supporting companies that are looking to increase flexibility, reduce manual handling, and improve operational efficiency.

The first wheel.me installation in Scotland demonstrates how existing carts, racks, and trolleys can be made autonomous by integrating wheel.me wheels directly onto equipment already in use. This enables manufacturers to automate internal transport quickly, using what they already have within their existing operations.

Rather than relying on fixed automation systems, wheel.me’s approach allows mobility to be added exactly where it is needed. Manufacturers can start with a single application, validate the impact, and scale over time as requirements evolve.

As part of the collaboration, wheel.me and Virtual Manufacturing UK recently hosted a joint webinar focused on autonomous intralogistics in real production environments. The session showcased how existing manual transport equipment can be transformed into autonomous solutions, and shared practical insights from real-world applications. A recording of the webinar is available to watch on demand here: link to webinar

"This collaboration represents an important stepfor wheel.me in the UK market. By working closely with VirtualManufacturing UK, we can bring our technology to Scottish manufacturers in away that is practical, accessible, and aligned with how modern productionenvironments operate.” - says Frank Willumsen, Head of Global PartnerDevelopment at wheel.me.
“wheel.me fits well with how many manufacturers want to approach automation today, it allows companies to improve internal logistics without redesigning layouts or committing to large, inflexible systems, and by working with VMUK they can be confident it is being applied in the right places and in the right way to achieve the greatest possible value.” - adds Virtual Manufacturing UK.

Following the first installation, wheel.me and VMUK plan to continue their collaboration through joint marketing activities, including success stories, demonstrations, and targeted communication throughout 2026. These initiatives will focus on showcasing real use cases and highlighting how flexible automation can support a wide range of manufacturing environments.

The partnership between wheel.me and Virtual Manufacturing UK reflects ashared ambition to make automation more accessible and practical for manufacturers across Scotland.
